The Malta Under 16 Boys and Girls selections are presently in Andorra and Gibraltar respectively to take part in the FIBA Under 16 Division C 2017 tournaments.
The boys’ team have already played three games and today will play Moldova in the search of a first win and a possibility to avoid the last place in Group A in the first phase.
Malta set off against Wales and had a good start leading 24-14 at half time but then succumbed to a narrow 43-47 defeat. (Click here to see the game’s stats). The hosts Gibraltar were the next opponents and here Malta lost 84-67 (click to see the game;s stats). Yesterday Malta faced the group’s firm favourites Armenia and lost 48-79 (click here to see the game’s stats).
The girls’ Under 16 selection, playing in Gibraltar, set off on a good note defeating Georgia 61-39, even though they were trailing 14-24 at half time but changed the tempo completely in the second half which they won 40-8 on their road to a good win. Click here to see the game’s stats.
Malta were off yesterday and today will play Kosovo (who yesterday were beaten 82-44 by Georgia).
